The purpose of the Downtown Mobility Plan was to explore ways to increase mobility and parking options in and around the Ayden downtown area. Furthering the availability of non-motorized travel options, coupled with a coordinated a land use approach was a project goal. The provision of adequate bicycle and pedestrian facilities, will allow Ayden residents more travel options.
Determinations of need relating to non-motorized transportation and parking facilities are a major part of the plan. The result of this document reinforces the Greenville Urbanized Area MPO 2011 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and the Ayden 2009 Comprehensive Sidewalk Plan.
A thorough analysis of existing facilities laid the ground work for policy and facility recommendations. Emphasis on increasing active transportation, and subsequently the health and well-being of Ayden residents, was an important project objective.
